It is always interesting when a “first” occurs in the broking market. The purchase of Folgate Insurance by APC Underwriting from Towergate almost certainly fell into this category – perhaps those with longer memories will know of another example, but an MGA buying an insurance company is undoubtedly an interesting twist. With Folgate in run off then the consolidator is well within its rights to point out that it is not a competitive issue – as Caitlin Morrison explains in her analysis on page
