With Aviva and The Broker Network parting company, have networks had their day, or is there still a future for them? Tony Cornell asks

The announcement of the parting of the ways between The Broker Network and Aviva came as a surprise. It must have a big impact for someone and I suspect the major loser will be the network. This decision ends the long partnership between the largest supplier of insurance to independent brokers and the largest network. Broker Network has around 300 members who handle nearly £500m of premiums. Aviva is probably its largest supplier and is likely to have up to £75m of premiums through those brokers
