Who or what is Biba? Thousands of visitors to Excel last week are none the wiser - I don't mean delegates to the Biba conference, but the huge audience of potential insurance customers who also happened to be in the vicinity. To the average passer by, the acronym could mean anything - perhaps the Baffin Island Bird Association or a 1970s fashion house staging a comeback or even - local to Excel centre - Beckton International Broadcasting Associates.

I had time, while sitting drinking my 14th coffee of the day at the Excel centre central concourse, to mull over the huge posters advertising the Biba conference. Two were in my line of sight - and also in full view of the thousands of non-insurance visitors over the two days. One poster mentioned the word 'insurance' but that was only because of sponsor Groupama's logo including the word. The other - nothing.

It was the same last year when a large helium balloon or some such broadcast the entry

Applied updates on commercial push

Applied Systems has confirmed Arch Insurance is about to enter the pilot phase of onboarding and will be live on the Applied Epic broker management system in April, with Iprism and Ark to follow and more promised in 2024.
