A recent study has shown that poor communication between small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), their insurers and brokers, is costing the SME sector £80m a year. Arguably, brokers could be part of the solution.

Typically, SMEs protect themselves for insurable events and largely ignore what is uninsurable. That said, most SMEs' only source of risk management analysis and advice is from their broker, and therefore there are real opportunities
