Putting energy into insurance

The insurance industry is still cautious about taking on renewable energy projects, despite their growing popularity in the UK as an alternative to fossil fuels. Peter Rush urges the industry to throw caution to the wind and devise a wide range of comprehensive cover

During the last few years much has been said, and written, about the problems of global warming and the measures required to combat this threat. The subsequent increase in the development of renewable energy projects is not just a coincidence but a concerted effort to reduce CO2 emissions around the world.

The major contribution to this effort in the UK has been the increase in the number of wind farm developments. The installed capacity in the UK is expected to exceed 1500MW by December 2005
