Home insurance rates rise for first time since 2012

IPT hike will increase cost of average policies by £5, say the AA.

The average quoted Shoparound price for both buildings and contents insurance policies has risen for the first time since 2012, according to the latest benchmark AA British Insurance Premium Index.

The Shoparound cost of standalone buildings and contents policies each rose by a modest 1.3%, over the three months ending 30 June 2015.

The average quoted Shoparound premium for a contents policy now stands at £61.18 (up just 77p) while that for buildings is £108.15 (up £1.34).
