Zurich UK profit up 19.5% to £171m in 2014

GWP rose by 2.2% to £1.71bn last year.

Zurich UK's full year results for 2014 show the insurer made an operating profit of £171m, an increase of 19.5% from £143m for the previous 12 months.

The provider posted a gross written premium of £1.71bn last year compared to £1.67bn in 2013, and said all of its market businesses showed some growth.

Zurich's combined ratio improved by 2.9% to 95.5% although its expense ratio deteriorated by 0.5% to 32.2%.

The insurer said no single factor was behind the worsened expense ratio and that it
