Fitch places Sterling on a positive rating watch

Agency expects the insurer to benefit from Covéa takeover.

Fitch Ratings has indicated that it may upgrade the rating of Sterling Insurance Group after placing the insurer on a positive watch.

The development comes in the same week that the sole owner of the high net worth specialist insurer, Nicholas Cooper, agreed to sell to the French mutual Covéa for an undisclosed sum.

Fitch has now placed the insurer financial strength ratings of 'BBB+' for both Sterling Insurance Co Ltd and Sterling Life Ltd on Rating Watch Positive.
