FOS opened 400,000 PPI cases in past year

Cases around insurance, excluding PPI, fell 6%.

The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) opened 512,167 new cases in the year to 31 March 2014.

The figures released as part of the ombudsman's annual review revealed that 78% of the new cases (399,939) concerned payment protection insurance (PPI), up 6% from the 378,699 in the previous 12 months.

Insurance excluding PPI accounted for 31,213 cases, down from 33,172 the year before.
