FOS reveals record complaints in 2013

PPI accounts for over three-quarters of complaints in second half of year.

The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) has revealed it took on a record 575,836 new cases in 2013.

The figure represented an increase of 38% on the total received in 2012.

In the second half of the year it received 248,801 complaints in total with payment protection insurance (PPI) making up 76% of the figure.

Just five financial services groups accounted for 68% of the 190,356 new PPI cases.
