Lloyd's of London unveils Inga Beale as chief executive

Canopius group chief executive will assume the role in the New Year, becoming the first female to lead the London market.

Lloyd's of London has unveiled Canopius head Inga Beale as chief executive, succeeding Richard Ward.

Beale - who has also spent four years with Zurich - will assume the position in January 2014. She will be the first female to lead the London market in its 325-year history.

In July this year, Ward announced his intention to resign as Lloyd's CEO after having been in the role for almost eight years.

And speaking about Beale's arrival, John Nelson, chairman of Lloyd's, said: "She has 30 years'
