Home-related claims doubled while motor claims rose 20%.

AA Insurance has detailed that the St Jude storm on 28 October produced a considerable spike in both home and motor claims.

According to the broker, it saw around twice as many home claims compared with a usual autumn Monday morning.

The storm, which registered gusts as high as 99 mph, was not as fierce as those in 1987 or 1990, however "wreaked a swathe of damage from the South-West of England to London and the South East", confirmed the company.
