Birmingham claims handler jailed over car insurance fraud
A Birmingham insurance claims handler has been jailed for stealing more than £40,000 from his employer.
Ravinder Malhi laundered the money through his friends’ bank accounts by adding them as beneficiaries to legitimate car insurance claims.
Over a three year period he issued them with 11 fraudulent cheques. He pleaded guilty to the fraud and was sentenced to ten months by the Old Bailey.
Mohammed Kawsar, Syed Islam and Shezhad Ladha each received a cheque from Malhi which they cashed before splitting the proceeds with him. All three were given suspended prison terms.
Malhi’s fraud was uncovered
