Berliner exits UK solicitors' PI market

Insurer Berliner is withdrawing from the UK solicitors’ professional indemnity (PI) market.

The insurer’s manager, Apro, has sent a letter to clients which states: “We are now writing to inform you that there is now uncertainty as to whether Berliner will after all be in a position to accept any solicitors’ PI risks for the year beginning 1 October 2013.”

According to market sources, the Financial Conduct Authority is to make an announcement around the withdrawal later today.
