School closures could mean £500 payouts

Towergate Insurance has stated that parents could claim up to £500 on its school closure policy if schools remain closed due to snow.

The policy, which is underwritten by Ace, was launched in January 2011. A spokesperson for Towergate confirmed that over 100 policies have been sold.

Hundreds of schools across the UK have been closed because of poor weather conditions.

Under the terms of the school closure policy, customers will receive £100 for each full day of closure, although they will not be paid for the first day of closure.

Policyholders will receive a maximum of £500 in payouts per policy year.
