Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) has appointed Tim Grant as interim chief operating officer.

Mr Grant was most recently head of e-commerce for Dual Corporate Risks and left the post in May last year to "take a career break and travel".

Prior to Dual he also held senior management roles at AIG and Brit Insurance.

In his new role he will focus on developing PIAs on-line capability in the UK by enhancing their product portfolio and assist the business with its international expansion strategy.

Graham Hearsey, chief executive officer of PIA, said: "We are delighted that someone of Tim's calibre and experience will be working with us to support our development and growth, both in the UK and internationally.

"His knowledge of commercial lines e-trading is exceptional and we share the same philosophy about the segment and its future potential."

Mr Grant added: "Taking time out and reflecting on the insurance industry has only strengthened my belief in the huge opportunities available to businesses that truly understand and embrace e-trading.

"PIA are undoubtedly e-commerce pioneers, not only demonstrated by their success in the UK, but also by the fact they already have live solutions in nine other countries."
