Aviva reports 97% COR in steady results

Aviva's general insurance business reported a combined operating ratio of 97%, excluding RAC, for the first nine months of 2012, consistent with its 2011 performance.

The insurer delivered general insurance and health net written premiums of £6.7bn, down 3% on the previous year during the same time frame.

UK net written premiums were level at £3.1bn, which the insurer said reflected its discipline to maintain profitability over volume in challenging market conditions.

Although Aviva highlighted the difficult SME commercial arena, the provider said its UK personal motor had grown profitably, with net premiums coming in 8% higher.
