Ex-RSA chief leading Direct Line bid

Andy Haste

Andy Haste, former chief executive of RSA, is leading a private equity consortium making a bid for Direct Line Group.

The Daily Telegraph has reported that Mr Haste is working with firms Blackstone, Bain and Advent.

The newspaper said sources have indicated that Mr Haste could be made chief executive or chairman of Direct Line Group should a bid of between £2.5bn and £3.5bn be successful.

Mr Haste was recently named in connection with the role of Aviva chief executive, following the resignation of Andrew Moss, but told friends he was not interested in the job.
