ABI reveals new chairman

Tidjane Thiam

The board of the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has nominated Tidjane Thiam as the next chairman of the trade body.

Mr Thiam, group chief executive of Prudential, will take over from Tim Breedon of Legal & General following the completion of his two-year term on 3 July.

Director General of the ABI Otto Thoresen praised Mr Thiam as a "globally-recognised business leader" whose understanding of the global insurance industry will be a huge asset.

He said: "I am looking forward to working with him to deepen the impact of the ABI as the authentic voice of an industry that is such a critical part of the UK's
