ABI accused of playing 'cynical and duplicitous game' over portal fees

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has reportedly advised members to start negotiating with offers of £150 for legal fees in low value claims.

According to the Law Gazette, a leaked email, apparently sent to members of the ABI by its assistant head of motor and liability James Dalton, called for a “tactical steer” to set limits for the RTA Portal.

The email asked the General Insurance Council committee to put forward the £150 figure as a negotiating tactic, and said the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) would “inevitably set a number higher than that”.

The figure would apply to all claims valued up to £10,000.
