UK Broker Conference 2011: service more important than price

Businesses look for a range of qualities when choosing a broker, and cost may not be the most important factor, according to business trade bodies.

Participating in a panel debate on the subject at Insurance Age’s inaugural UK broker conference, John Walker, national chairman of the Federation of Small Businesses, said that in his experience, people looked for competitive quotes and appropriate policies.

He added: “In a claim situation, you need a broker to be helpful with that process, and to just generally keep that important part of the work to an administrative minimum.”

Broking profits fall at Saga

Underlying profit before tax in Saga’s insurance broking arm fell to £39.8m for the year ended 31 January 2024, compared with £71.5m in the previous period.
