ABI keen to engage with OFT motor inquiry

Otto Thoresen

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has described the Office of Fair Trading’s (OFT) announcement of an inquiry into the cost of motor insurance as an opportunity to highlight the increasing cost pressures insurers’ face.

The OFT has called for evidence to be delivered within five weeks on a range of topics including the role of aggregators, insurance companies' use of approved repairer panels and the sale of ancillary products.

Commenting on the announcement Otto Thoresen, the ABI's director general, said the opportunity was there to explain the actions needed to reduce cost pressures and the steps the insurance industry was taking to ensure customers got the best motor insurance deals.
