Ecclesiastical to push COR below 98%

Group chief executive Michael Tripp said he was focused on reducing volatility and getting Ecclesiastical's combined operating ratio (COR) below 98%.

The group's COR currently stands at 104.9%.

Commenting on the insurer's H1 2011 results, Mr Tripp said: "The underlying underwriting position doesn't yo-yo - that is solid. What causes volatility is exposure to one off events like earthquakes."

Mr Tripp said the specialist insurer had also taken other measures to reduce its exposure to volatility.

"Ecclesiastical Underwriting Management was put into runoff in August last year and that has helped along with investing in reinsurance and our broker
