Brokers' final thoughts on Independent's downfall
In our last installment of broker reflection on the 10th anniversary of the collapse of Independent, four brokers reveal what the saga meant to them.
David Ottewill, managing director, Camberford Law, admitted that the failure of Independent had been a shock to him.
"We never quite believed the Independent story and so if we had one or two policies with them - that would have been the maximum. When Independent started surveying every risk I thought fair enough and could see the sense behind it. But more and more I could see that in actual fact nothing very different was happening from the rest of the market.
