E-commerce: Commercial market struggles to meet fraud prevention demand

As the capacity for online small to medium-sized enterprise (SME) trading increases, the commercial insurance market continues to lag behind in fraud prevention, according to APC underwriting director, Ian Russell.

Data in respect of personal lines, motor and household claims is currently shared using the Claims Underwriting Exchange (CUE), as is data relating to personal injury claims.

It is also expected that travel insurance claims will shortly increase this pool of shared claims data (Insurance Age, September 2010, p18).

Mr Russell claimed that in comparison to personal lines, the commercial market was behind the times due to the lack of data sharing in this field.
