Construction industry appeals to insurers for immediate help

Brokers are demanding that the insurance industry "step up to the plate" to aid the struggling construction sector.

Jonathan Marsh, managing director of Marsh's UK construction business, said the construction industry needed immediate assistance, calling on insurers to play their part by speeding up claims payment - an area that he claimed had worsened since the start of the recession.

In addition, Sarah Bickerstaff, director of Heath Lambert's project risks team, said the problem was exacerbated by brokers outsourcing claims ownership. Mr Marsh said it was "time for everyone to step up to the plate," and
