Police warn that Olympics could lead to more plant theft
Plant theft claims are set to rise as the London 2012 Olympics approach, the head of the Metropolitan Police's Plant and Agriculture National Intelligence Unit (PANIU) has warned.
Speaking at a Lloyd's industry briefing, DC Ian Elliot said the games had focused police attention on the issue, explaining that while the official sites were secure, the surrounding work sites were vulnerable.
He said that between 15 and 20 machines a day were stolen last year and that one or two of those daily thefts took place in London.
