Zurich agrees to boost security following loss of personal data of nearly 50,000 clients

Zurich Insurance agrees to improve information security after losing over 46,000 individuals’ personal financial information.

As reported in Insurance Age, the insurer revealed it lost the tape a year after it went missing in South Africa.

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has found Zurich Insurance in breach of the Data Protection Act after it lost the unencrypted back-up tape containing financial personal information belonging to 46,000 policy holders of Zurich Private Client, Zurich Special Risk and Zurich Business Client, which are all part of Zurich Insurance.
