Figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) have revealed that the UK economy has emerged from recession following six consecutive quarters of negative growth, the longest period of contraction on record. The ONS reported that in the months October to December 2009, the economy grew by 0.1.%. It said the increase in output was due mainly to increases in distribution, hotels and restaurants and Government and other services. It added that output of the service industries increased 0.1%
