Fears over FOS complaints data

Trade bodies have warned of the danger of "misleading" clients, following the publication of detailed complaints data.

For the first time, the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) has individually named and shamed banks, insurance companies and investment firms in its complaints data.

The move follows the Financial Services Authority's (FSA) release of aggregate figures covering the period 2006-2008, which showed complaints against general insurance intermediaries had risen year on year.
