New government legislation that aims to expose organised insurance frauds, such as staged motor accidents, has officially become part of UK law.
The Fraud Act 2006 has established a single statutory offence for fraud for the first time, and has opened up new avenues for prosecuting fraudsters caught in the act.
According to the Association of British Insurers (ABI), induced accidents cost the industry more than £200m in insurance, and also increase motor premiums by around 5%.
