Niche UK general insurer, IGI Group, has attracted a major shareholder investment from Iceland's leading insurance company, Vatryggingafelagslandshf. (VIS) in a strategic move by VIS to gain a presence in the UK market.

With the new partnership in place, IGI's current gross written premium is expected to grow significantly by 2009. The company, which is based in Nottingham, was established in 1975 and employs around 60 staff. It currently writes product lines such as landlord property, touring
