General insurers reported the biggest growth in business volumes last quarter of all financial services sectors, according to the latest survey from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and the CBI. But the gain was balanced out by insurance brokers, which recorded a substantial decline in business in the same period.

The growth came despite volumes of business in the financial services industry as a whole falling over the past three months.
