Government launches initiatives to tackle fraud

The Government has launched fraud initiatives National Fraud Strategic Authority (NFSA) and National Fraud Reporting Centre (NFRC). The bodies have been established on the recommendations of the Government’s Fraud Review which reported in July 2007. The aim of the Centre is to provide a link between local police forces, the public and other law enforcement agencies. The Authority will provide overall co-ordination and strategy to confront and disrupt organised crime groups.

CMS Cameron McKenna LLP is an active legal adviser on anti-fraud issues, and was the only law firm to contribute to a recent intelligence report by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) into mortgage fraud. The confidential report, part-published in March, was sent to the financial industry and to police forces across the UK to highlight the growing problem of mortgage fraud.

Findings from the ACPO report included:
