Unlike our continental cousins, buying insurance online has become de rigeur for the UK public - but it is not all doom and gloom for personal lines brokers. Louise Meeson reports on the state of market.

The UK has forged ahead of the rest of Europe in terms of the extent and pace at which consumers have adopted internet buying - and insurance is no exception.

A recent Accenture survey stated that the internet is fast becoming the "only way" to purchase personal lines cover in the UK, with 63% of consumers buying motor insurance and 45% purchasing home insurance online.

Applied updates on commercial push

Applied Systems has confirmed Arch Insurance is about to enter the pilot phase of onboarding and will be live on the Applied Epic broker management system in April, with Iprism and Ark to follow and more promised in 2024.
