Polly was surprised to hear rumours that a leading broker, that espouses the benefits of independence, was actually in the market for a buy-out.
It struck her as odd that someone would wax lyrical about dynamics and strong leadership structures only to then court several potential buyers who were pretty likely to do away with all that. Why promote one thing but actually be after something else? So often these deals are shrouded in secrecy - no-one ever really seems to want to reveal an acquisition until the ink on the paper is dry.
