Moody’s keeps stable outlook for UK P&C insurers

Ratings agency Moody’s has maintained a stable outlook for property and casualty insurers in the UK, with economic growth expected to balance pricing pressures.

The specialists noted P&C earnings have “remained healthy” this year, supported by reserve releases, benign weather and lower reinsurance costs and that solvency ratios have stayed “robust”.

However, Moody’s acknowledged “recent price declines will continue to compress margins through 2027”.

Softening

Last month Confused/WTW calculated that after the first quarterly rise in more than two years, comprehensive car insurance premiums had returned to softening.
