Aviva calls on Ofcom to assist in fight against ghost broking

Aviva has urged Ofcom to use its consultation on Fraudulent Advertising Codes of Practice as an opportunity to strengthen online advertising rules, as the insurer has supported its proposals for tougher action to deter the threat posed by online insurance fraud.

Ofcom’s consultation, published on 10 July 2026, focused on its proposals for what category 1 and category 2A services should do to tackle fraudulent advertising in line with their duties under the Act.

The proposals apply to paid-for advertising content, and not user generated content or non-sponsored search content.

The consultation closes today (2 October). Ofcom noted it plans to publish it statement by mid-2027 at the latest.
