Two years on from shifting roles, Ryan Birbeck, casualty and bodily injury claims director at Aviva, shares his learnings with brokers.
When I moved into claims, I thought I understood it.
I’d spent my career across distribution, trading and underwriting, working closely with brokers and seeing claims as the moment of truth for customers. But moving into claims gave me a very different perspective.
I saw the breadth of expertise, technology, data and partnerships behind every claim, but also something bigger: claims can play a much greater role in how we think about the value of insurance.
It is not simply what happens after a loss
