QBE FOI reveals solar panel fires increasing at more than double the rate of installations
The rate of solar panel fires is rising faster than the pace of installations, up 133% in recent years compared to a 52% increase in new kit, according to research by QBE.
The insurer collected data from Freedom of Information requests this February to five UK fire services. It compared the findings to government figures on solar photovoltaic installations.
The analysis revealed bridgades attended 212 fires involving solar panels in 2025, more than double (133%) the 91 recorded in 2022.
