FCA insurance authorisation service declines in final quarter

The level of authorisation service by the Financial Conduct Authority in the areas hitting brokers worsened in the final quarter of 2025/26 with only two out of five categories rated green.

The watchdog had switched how it reported the data in Q3 with tighter timeframes and in some cases more granular details. In that period three of the five were ranked as green.

The latest update for January to March 2026 showed service in authorising new insurance firms remained squarely in the red.

Rather than hitting the target of deciding on 95% of cases within four months for a complete application, or 10 months for an incomplete one, the FCA only achieved an 82.1% outcome.
