UK insurers paying out £187m every day

UK insurers are paying out £187m every day to customers, figures published by the Association of British Insurers (ABI) have revealed.

According to the trade body's UK Insurance Key Facts 2013 report, insurers are covering some £19.1m for private motorists and £6.2m a day in commercial motor claims. 

Furthermore, £9.1m is paid out to householders and £3.4m to businesses due to damage to their premises.

Meanwhile, £7m is covered in liability claims, such as employers' liability, £1.2m to cat and dog owners under pet insurance and £1m to travellers for travel insurance policies.

Broking profits fall at Saga

Underlying profit before tax in Saga’s insurance broking arm fell to £39.8m for the year ended 31 January 2024, compared with £71.5m in the previous period.
