Hammering down on legal expenses

While a large number of clients seem remarkably ignorant of legal expenses insurance, they are not the only ones. Brokers are also displaying a worrying reticence to get to grips with the issue, reports Nigel McFarlane

The law is an ass, but it still has to be paid for. Given that best estimates say around £250m in legal expenses insurance (LEI) cover was written in the UK in 2002, why is LEI the best-kept secret in the industry?

Iain Campbell, partner at law firm Hill Dickinson, has seen risk management and legal expenses issues achieve higher prominence in the industry in recent years after a number of corporate reports - specifically, the Turnbull Report into corporate governance - highlighted risk awareness
