Brokers have been warned by the Association of British Insurers (ABI)
that they have to be ready to trade in euros as early as the end of the
year.


Although the UK is unlikely to join the European Monetary Union (EMU)
until 2002, some large companies such as Siemens, Unilever and BMW, have
indicated that they will be trading in euro before the join-up date.
