Under the proposals for new regulatory body the General Insurance
Standards Council, brokers and intermediaries are likely to be given a
year's grace before they have to join the new Financial Services Ombudsman
Scheme.


Following a widening of the Insurance Ombudsman Bureau's membership
criteria in 1998, brokers and intermediaries have the option of joining
the IOB's scheme, but under GISC proposals they will be required to join
the new FSOS.
