Legal & General (L&G) has updated its critical illness product to widen cover for new policies. Changes include altering the definition of a major organ transplant as well as moving the maximum age at the policy’s outset to 67 and adding accident hospitalisation benefit.

L&G claimed that the new definitions were designed to improve clarity, provide better cover for customers and reduce the number of claims that were declined for not meeting the policy definition.

Bonnie Burns, product and technical director for retail protection at L&G, said: “Our key focus is to help as many customers as possible when they need to make a claim. Our latest enhancements will help us ensure we continue to deliver what customers want, when it really counts, if they need to claim.”
