Government proposes apprenticeship levy

Employers with a £3m plus wage bill could be liable to pay a 0.5% levy.

The government has confirmed that the way it funds apprenticeships will change next spring.

It is proposing a new funding model to help it reach its investment target of £2.5m in apprenticeship training by 2020.

Large employers with a payroll of over £3m will be liable to pay. 

The levy will be charged at a rate of 0.5% of the businesses annual "pay bill".

Broking profits fall at Saga

Underlying profit before tax in Saga’s insurance broking arm fell to £39.8m for the year ended 31 January 2024, compared with £71.5m in the previous period.
