Hughes to close six branches in Northern Ireland

Hughes Insurance is to close six of its 11 branches in Northern Ireland alongside a restructure at company headquarters in Newtownards.

The affected branches in Ballymena, Ballynahinch, Lisburn, Magherafelt, Newry and Omagh will shut in April.

The broker confirmed that it anticipated 20 job losses across the company.

However the firm stressed that it would "make every effort to avoid redundancies where possible".

Broking profits fall at Saga

Underlying profit before tax in Saga’s insurance broking arm fell to £39.8m for the year ended 31 January 2024, compared with £71.5m in the previous period.
