PPI still leads on ombudsman complaints

Payment protection insurance makes up seven out of ten complaints to regulator as insurance cases rise 1%.

The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) said that of 191,129 complaints received in the first six months of 2014, 70% were related to payment protection insurance (PPI).

There were a total of 133,819 new PPI complaints. The number of complaints about insurance rose 1% as reports about products other than PPI grew 3% (57,310 compared to 55,747).

The average uphold rate (where the ombudsman found in the consumer's favour) over the six-month period was 57%, up from 51% during the previous six months
