Clifford Chance to lead investigation into FCA
Probe comes after briefing to Daily Telegraph saw billions wiped off insurer share prices.
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has confirmed that Simon Davis of law firm Clifford Chance is to lead an independent inquiry into its handling of an announcement that it would be looking at the fair treatment of long standing customers in life insurance.
The briefing, covered by the Daily Telegraph on 27 March, knocked £6bn off the value of insurance companies on the London Stock Exchange and has led to speculation that chief executive Martin Wheatley may have to resign.
